ideas for 12 month old
« on: March 01, 2011, 20:59:35 pm »
Hi all, Kian's just turned 12 mths old is quite capable of eating all solids. My problem is that anything he has, he thinks it's fun to just through it off his highchair on to the floor, I still have to feed him mashed/lumpy food off a spoon otherwise he will not being having much to eat at all. I've even tried putting the spoon in his hand and guiding. He seems adamant that he wants to do it himself but given the opportunity he just throws it.

Any advice/suggestions on stopping him from throwing it and getting him to eat a small amount. Thanks

With throwing food he's exploring all new avenues and thinks its exciting, especially to see your reaction I would imagine.

Spoon feeding is going to be messy, but I would be firm and tell him you do not throw, don't laugh, or get angry - cause a reaction, cos he'll think its funny. Spoon feed with him (one spoon each) and i'm afraid its going to be practice practice practice.

Adding Lumps in though is really important, not only to stop him being fussy with food but also because the chewing helps develop his mouth muscles and jaw for talking.

What spoons are you using? Have you got toddler ones where the handles are shorter? DS finds them.so much easier to manipulate than the baby spoons.
