6 mo with NW/EW. Can you look at my routine?
« on: March 03, 2011, 17:01:18 pm »
Hi ladies,

DD2 is 6 mo this Saturday.  She just started STTN about 2 weeks ago.  For about the past week, she has had either NW or EW (about 5:30 am) and sometimes both.  Last night, I heard her at 2 am, then again at 4:30 am for about 15 mins.  When she is awake, she is in there having a crib party, chatting to herself and occassionally yelling. Thus far, I have never gone in to check on her, because she seems quite happy (of course, then I can't get back to sleep).  Here is our EASY:

E: 07:15- Wake and Bottle
A: 07:15-9:45
E: 09:45- Bottle
S: 10-11:30
A: 11:30-1:45 (Includes solids for lunch around 12:15)
E: 1:45- Bottle
S: 2:00-5:00
A: 5:00-7:00 (Includes solids for dinner around 5:15)
E: 7:00- Bottle
S: 7:30

Does anything jump out at anybody?  I am thinking maybe she is getting too much sleep during the day, and I need to cut that pm nap and a later bedtime maybe.  Also, I started giving her meds in case she was teething.

TIA

Hello there  ;D

To be honest i dont have any advice because my 6 month lo is going through the same phase. NW or EW, sometimes both... just wanted to let you know that there is someone else going through the exact same thing :) Hope it's a phase and it'll go away soon..

The average A is 2 hours and 15 minutes - 2 hours and 30 minutes. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64158.msg476652#msg476652  What is your morning A like when you have that 5 am waking?

A lot of LO's are doing 2 naps and cat nap right now.  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=85130.0  Is there a reason you have that 3 hour long nap in the afternoon?  I would think this nap is robbing your LO of her night sleep.  That is a lot of sleep before bed.

Here are some sample routines.http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=164029.0

Thanks, TBH, I am following the schedule my MIL started when we were out of town a few days week before last.  That schedule change was what started her STTN, dropping that bottle and generally doing much better overall, so I certainly do not want to change it.  However, I am definately in agreement with you that all the sleep she is getting in the pm might be the problem, so today, she went down for her nap at 2:30 and got up at the same time.

To answer your original question, when she gets up around 5, she almost always falls asleep again.  If she wakes, at say, 5:45 or 6, I kind of force her to wait until her regularly scheduled nap around 9:30 before putting her down, which means are long A time of 3.5 hours or so.

Thanks for the samples.

So today she woke up at 5 am and did not go back to sleep.  Giving her an earlier nap is not an option, b/c I have a 3 year old that has to go to nursery school and I don't get back to the house until after 9 am.  I suppose she will catnap in the car coming and going, and then I can stick to my regular schedule.

I thought about feeding her in lieu of that 7:15 bottle and waiting for the next one until the regularly scheduled time.  That way, I would not be "adding" a bottle.

It just seems like many of the things I can try- feeding her when she wakes at 5 or 5:30; or making her naps earlier requiring the Catnap be added back in are just moving backwards, not forwards.

Amel, are you altering your schedule at all or just dealing with it and adding it to "A" time in the morning?

(((HUGS)))  How did it go this morning.  I am assuming you put her down at her regular time, given the car trip?

What did you do when she woke that early?  Did you get her?  You could always do PU/PD when she starts to cry and give her a bottle at her normal wake up time.  Then put her down for a nap when she would go down when she wakes at 7.  It is pushing it, but you won't end up with so many naps.  You might get an OT nap that you have to extend though.

Did she have that long nap yesterday?

Kara,

Today was a bit wonky I think b/c of that EW.  She actually did not fall asleep in the car, but I knew she had to be tired, and decided to put her down as soon as I got home at 9:15 and she fell asleep in her Jolly Jumper while I was warming her bottle (very cute).  Her am nap went fine, but her pm nap was awful.  It was the first bad nap we have had in almost a month.  She went down at 2:30, was screaming at 3:30 (I re-settled) and was up at 4:30.  Then, we had plans this evening which my DH insisted she attend, and she got OT all over again.  I am expecting a crummy night :(

When she woke at 5 am today, I didn't do anything.  I don't go in to do PU/PD because she is not crying, she is usually just talking.  I considered feeding her hoping it would get her to go to sleep.  She gets a bottle before nap at 9:30 anyway, so I would not even be adding a feeding.  However, I am just really hesitant to feed her sometime before the sun is up.  It feels like a nightfeed to me, and I want to get away from her associating waking/making noise in the crib=mommy comes in and feeds me.  Since she is not crying, I assume she is not actually hungry, however, I am really leaning towards doing it tomorrow morning if she wakes before 6 am or so.  If she does not go back to sleep, I guess I know that is not the solution...

WWYD?

I wouldn't feed.  She is not crying, so I doubt it is hunger.  I would leave her if she is just awake.

Sometimes you can't control things.  Going out and having a life are part of managing it all.  Just know there will be times when she is OT as a result.

Hello Texomama, sorry for the late reply.. Actually, all im doing at the moment is trying to increase A time by 10-15 minutes each week, until i can get her to stay up for 2.5-3 hr... we still have a long way to go!

By the way, my lo woke up almost every hour yesterday evening (not hungry, i am sure), and then after her dream feed, woke up every 30 minutes until 3:15 am! :)

i tried everything, sh pat, pu pd, changed her nappy.. i even put some teething gel thinking it might be the reason...

i honestly dont know what to do, i am not feeding her at night (however, i did yesterday after trying to calm her for more than 2 hours)...

So, all i can say to myself "it could be a major growth spurt and it will go away soon" :)
