My 8 month old son wakes up happy and alert. The problem is, he wakes up at 3am. I breastfeed him and then I try to go back to sleep but he starts to babble and kick and laugh and play. He does this for at least three hours every night. I don't know what to do because it's not like I need to soothe him. He's happy. He's more talkative at night than he is during the day. I am pretty sure I heard him say "Mama" last night but I have no idea because I was trying to pretend I couldn't hear him. Which was hard considering he was 4 inches from my head. And when I open my eyes, he sees me and starts laughing and shrieking.
My first thought was, he gets too excited from sleeping in my bed (I now call it "my bed" because my husband sleeps in the guest bedroom because our son is so loud). So I tried moving him to his crib. Long story short, he still has never slept in his crib. I tried. I really did but he has unbelievable stamina. Also has never slept in a co-sleeper. Never. Not for naps. Not for nighttime. Oh, and his naps are terrible. It's like he doesn't need to sleep. He naps at most for 2 hours total during the day.
I know how important sleep is and I really would love some advice on how to get him to sleep.
Here is some info that might help to know:
-Goes to sleep in my arms at 7:30pm after our bedtime routine (bath, massage). He falls asleep while I breastfeed him and then I hold him for the rest of the evening until I go to bed at 10pm and then he comes into the bed with me.
-I breastfeed once during the night around 3am
-has acid reflux and takes prevacid twice a day
-He doesn't take a pacifier and has no soothing devices besides my breasts
-He is 21 lbs
-I have a 2.5 yr old son that was also a terrible sleeper (woke up every 2 hours until he was sleep trained at 9 months).
Thank you!
