no nap consistency! Driving me nuts!
« on: March 29, 2011, 21:52:51 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a 5 and a half month old DS and over the last 3 weeks I have been working on his naps. He is a horrible napper and was catnappng all day. I used the W2S and HTTJ techniques and managed to get him out of what I think was an OT cycle.

He was doing 90+ naps in the morning 90% of the time the last 2 weeks and about 50% of the time doing a good afternoon nap and a catnap (which he would fight somedays) However, following exactly the same day as yesterday (where I received a 110min nap am) I got 35 minutes and a crazy happy wee boy! He then wouldnt go down for the next nap and is now OT - I suspect he will nap 35 mins again now I have finally got him down.

Can 30/35 mins possibly mean UT or is it always OT? He went down really easy for his nap this morning and had a good nights sleep so I can understand why he has regressed?

It is so frustrating finally thinking I had cracked his napping problems to be going backwards again :(

He is a touchy baby and is teething (first tooth cutting) and suffers from silent reflux (managed by medication) so I understand this may all be affecting his napping.

I have a post on the EASY board (not the same) as we are just starting out on EASY, but here is yeserdays and this mornings routine

Yesterday
Wake at 6 (This also is earlier than usual!)
E 6.30 (solids at 7.15)
S 8.10 110 mins
E 10.30 (solids at 11.30)
A 10.00 - 12.00
S 12.00 35 mins (then catnapped the rest of the day - but was uncomfortable with teething)
E 1.50 (so could get him to sleep)
A 12.35 - 2.00
S 2.00 35 mins
A 2.35 - 4.20 (tried to start settling from 3.45)
S 4.20 35 mins
E 5.45 (1/2 bottle before bath) and solids then 6.30 BF as part of BT routine
S 7.10
E 11.15

Today
Wake at 6 (This also is earlier than usual!)
E 6.30 (solids at 7.15)
S 8.10 35 mins woke happy and excited...tried to resettle for 30 mins - no luck
A 8.45 - 10.25
E 09.55 (only so he would hopefully sleep longer as due for feed at 10.30)
S 10.25 (after trying since 10.00)

These are terrible in comparison to before and I thought I had just got the first A right at 2.10.

Any thoughts or ideas, I feel like a terrible mum!

I don't have the answer but just wanted to let you know we are going through the exact same thing. The day before last we got 2 1.5hour naps, and a 30 minute nap. Yesterday an today she won't nap longer than 30 minutes and she is so cranky. I'm not doing anything different. It driving me nuts.

I just add that my excellent little sleeper (now 11 months) went really wacky on his naps around 5 months.  I think it got sorted out by looking at A times and his catnap (bit of discussion under title: Cat nap cutting at 5 months - OT help!  sorry can't figure out how to make a proper link). He did go back to reliable naps so have no fear. And sometimes it's just the phase of the moon so hang on in there you are not a bad mother.  Very easy to feel like it though.
