9,5 months old, many NW always EW, and disaster naps
« on: April 08, 2011, 08:15:54 am »
Hi ! (Im from Sweden so my english is a disaster i know, bur please help us)

My son is 9,5 months old, and has always had problems sleeping, at first it was only daytime thus to vind and gas problems. At night time he initially sleept well about 6-8h , and 2 NW for BF.

But since he´s about 6 months everything changed. About the time when i started to give him babyfood aswell as BF. He is a big boy and grows as he should and loves food. I still BF him in the morning and before BT, and once inte the night 2-3ish.

Our daily routine is never exact but something like this;

E: Awakes 5.00-5.30 cuddeling and BF ofthen from both breasts, (not in the bedroom), 7.00 breakfast cereal big portion.
A: Playing on his own and with me, cuddeling, snack 8.00 fruits
S: 9.00-9.30. crys or talks/plays in the cot, i help him settle and he might sleep a little bit longer .Never longer then 1.10h- i´d like the nap to be 1,5 h.(For naps we just go to the bedroom and put him in his growbag and open the window - then i say to him that he´s tired and has to rest and put him in the cot). (PU/PD)
Y:

E: 11.00-11.30 Lunch - time depending on then he awoke from nap.
A: Playing sometimes with other kids at a daycare centre, or beeing outside
S: 12.30-13.00 crys or talks/plays in the cot, i help him settle and he might sleep a little bit longer .Never longer then 1.10h- i´d like the nap to be 1,5 h. (For naps we just go to the bedroom and put him in his growbag and open the window - then i say to him that he´s tired and has to rest and put him in the cot). (PU/PD)
Y:

E:Snacktime 14.00-14.30, bit portion of cereal and one banana.
A:reading baby books, singing or watching me take care of the hous.
E:17.00 dinner
A:play/cuddle, put on pyjamas
E:BF and the BT begins; reading book it the bedroom, singing and turning the lights out , but him in the cot and saying goodnigt. Might be many PU/PD´s . Sleeps about 19.30 - i would like him to be able to sleep 18.30-19.00.

First NW, 1 h after BT, then 2 h - 3h sleep and so it goes. And i forgot to mention

Our big problem is his problems with wind/gas - after every meal he has to burp, and has big trouble doing so - it might take him 1,5 h to get all the air out. Almost everytime that he awakes it seems to be becourse his botherd by vind/gas he crys and after some min he burps and then all is well again. He is not abel to burp in his sleep or if he is really upset then he first needs to calm down, if this takes to long time hes not abel to fall back to sleep.

So sorry about my english , please help me

/Lisa

Is there a chance your Lo can have some food allergy? Does he have reflux?
I'm saying that because DS has reflux and still (at almost 17 months) he needs to be properly burped before BT otherwise he'll have a NW.
xx

Hi thanks for reading and your replys !

My son almost never puked so i´did not belive that it could be reflux. We have an apointment to the doctors office tomorrow, so i hope that we will get some help there.
For some days now i´v tried to exclude cows milk fom his diet, and i belive that its a little bit better.

The last days have looked more like this:

E: Awakes 5.00-5.30 cuddeling and BF ofthen from both breasts, (not in the bedroom), 7.00 breakfast cereal big portion.
A: Playing on his own and with me, cuddeling, snack 8.00 fruits
S: 9.00-10.30. (For naps we just go to the bedroom and put him in his growbag and open the window - then i say to him that he´s tired and has to rest and put him in the cot). (PU/PD)
Y:

E: 11.00- 11.30 Lunch - time depending on then he awoke from nap.
A: Playing sometimes with other kids at a daycare centre, or beeing outside. Snack before sleeping.
S: 13.30-14.15 crys or talks/plays in the cot, i help him settle and he might sleep a little bit longer .Never longer then 1.10h- i´d like the nap to be 1,5 h. (For naps we just go to the bedroom and put him in his growbag and open the window - then i say to him that he´s tired and has to rest and put him in the cot). (PU/PD)
Y:

E:Snacktime 14.30-15.00, bit portion of cereal and one banana.
Sleeps about 19.15 - i would like him to be able to sleep 18.30-19.00.

As i wrote earlyer most of our bed time routine is focused on him beeing abel to burp:(
Last 3 night he has sleept much better. With first NW at 01:00ish, but he has been really awake at 4.00 and very difficult to but back to bed. I have worked at reducing BF at night and was down to 1, but last to nights he demanded 2.

I stay with him in the bedroom until he sleeps, but hide when he falls asleep.

How do i adjust this better, sp that he might sleep longer in the morning?

And what how should i do about Bf at night, would really like to quit - and sleep ;)

At 9.5 mths he still needs 3-4 milk feeds a day - so I think they need adding back into your daytime feeding.

A trial of no dairy sounds like a great idea but you really need to do it as well else he will get dairy from the breast milk as well. Also watch out for hidden dairy in bread etc. You want to be completely dairy free (both of you) for it to be a fair trial.

Ok, i did not know that. My son refuses the bottle and does not prefer do BF when we are and the go - to much to look at . Therefore it has been easier for us to give him solid foods. When we are at home he loves to BF.
He likes to drink water from bottles but nothing elses!

Hi again.

Now im ready to give up :( The doctor did not find anything wrong with my son and his gas/wind/burping problems. And the NW became worse again. This night we had 5NW, he was not able to fall asleep before 20.00 when he had burped it all out and then he woke 23.00, 01.30 BF, 03.30, 05.00 - unable to fall back to sleep.

Im am so tired now , what shall i do? how to move forward i need a change desperatly!

Faild to mention before that his afternoon nap almost always is in his stroller -is that bad? He is teething badly aswell so iv orderd som Dentinox!

Hugs some lo deal with teething really well and you don't even know that a teeth has pop out

But my LO was a really bad teether when lo are in pain you can not sleep train

When DS was teething we would give pain meds half hour before sleep time and teething gel/powder just before and then four hours later give a top up of pain meds

Hugs

Jane

Thank you so much for taking time to anserw me, i give LO pain meds before bedtime (18.00) but no refill during the night. Maybe the reason why Lo always wakes up around 23.00-01.00 ish.

Will i never be able to sleep train then, i mean they get teeth until 2-3 years?
