Breastfeeding 8 month old...supply is slowing?
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:27:38 pm »
Hi
I have been BF my LO for 8 months now...along with solids of course. I have never had a problem with supply more than less as day goes on than in the morning. However, the last week or so I am not getting as full. Spring has begun and with that I get some mild allergies. With this I have been blowing my nose, throat is dry and feeling dehydrated. I am upping the water intake a lot, but not seeming to quench the thirst. Usually if I pump I can get 4-5 oz and the last two days I have tried to pump one feeding and can barely get out 1.5oz. Sometimes I am not even sure if I am feeling the let down and usually I always do. I don't want to starting giving formula......any suggestions. I can't think of anything else, aside from the allergy/dehydrated feeling that has changed.

Thanks

Have you been taking antihistamines for your allergies? I ask because all the ones I've seen are contraindicated when breastfeeding - many work by drying up the mucous membranes, but they're not selective so they end up drying everything up, kwim?

How's your lo doing? You mentioned a decreasing pumping output, but how are feeds going? Is your babe still satisfied between feeds? How's the wet/dirty diaper output?
