8 month LO can't figure out naps
« on: April 13, 2011, 17:07:14 pm »
I LO just turned 8 months last week. She has always been STTN 7p-7a since 6 weeks but has never napped well. My schedule has changed at work a lot in the last 5 months but I am home with her during the day and go to work in the late afternoon. I have been trying to work with her schedule and to get her on an EASY routine but I am having so much problems with her naps. It has been a little over a month trying to figure this out. She mostly does 45 minutes and wakes up crying. Yesterday I moved her A time to 3 hours and it went well but today she was OT. I'm not quite sure how to handle tomorrow. This was yesterdays schedule. She was kind of crabby yesterday and I probably would have shorter A times but I wanted to see how 3 hrs would do for her.

700 wake BF
900 solids
10:05 nap was put down at 9:45 no really much fussing
11:30 woke up BF
1:00 solids
2:25 nap was put down at 2:20
3:48 woke up crying, bottle (babysitter said she was fussy and acted like she was tired so she put her back down at 4:15 fell asleep for 10 minutes
5:15 solid
7:00 bottle asleep by 7:30p

She woke up in the middle of the night a few times and was crying but it lasted less than 10 minutes and she went back to sleep on her own. So today has gone like this so far. She was in her jumperoo for part of the morning and it was quite for a few minutes and I found her dozing in her jumperoo. Maybe I should have put her in her crib but she had only been up for 1hr 45 minutes?

700 wake up BF
845 found sleeping in jumperoo
900 solids didnt eat very much
1003 nap was put down at 9:45
1034 woke up crying OT wouldn't go back to sleep
1100 BF

I also wanted to add that there is no sign of teething and she isnt crawling yet either

What A time was she doing before you upped it to 3 hours?  Was yesterday the first day you tried 3 hours?

3 hours is actually average for 7-8 months so my first thought was that she was UT and that was why you were having short naps but not sure if she fell asleep after 1.45.

I guess I thought I read anything under 40 minutes is considered OT but maybe I read wrong. Yes, now it was 2 days ago I tried 3 hours. She had independent play in her exersaucer, jumperoo, ate solids, and I played with her on the floor.

Not necessarily OT.  Depends on the baby.  And the A time they are doing.

What A time is normal prior to trying 3 hours?

A time has been around 2.5 hours. Yesterday afternoon she took about 1.5 hour nap after about 2 hrs A time since the morning nap wasn't good. My sister was having trouble getting her done for a catnap later and when my husband was trying to put her to bed she was falling asleep so definitely OT by bedtime. She slept good until 4:20am she would cry off and on for 5-10 minutes at a time every 30-40 minutes. I ended up getting up with her at 6am, BF and she went back to sleep until 7am. I figured she probably wasn't going to be able to stay up 3 hrs so I really tried to watch her. I ended up putting her done and she was asleep at 9:30am slept 1.5hrs. So that would have been 2.5 A time for the morning and the afternoon A time was 2hs 45 minutes and slept 1hr 10 minutes which was odd. But not too bad. I think I am going to have my husband put her to bed at 6:30 instead of 7 since the catnap was such a struggle last night. She woke up around 3pm. I don't think she can make it 4 hours before going to bed. Do you think that is a good idea?
