Hey Claire,

Just chipping in. Good luck with the new routine and PU/PD. I'm just recalling how well Oliver did with the long AM nap and short PM though. Maybe if you don't have the success you're looking for you could try that again. It may be that's just what suits him best  :-\. It seems if he was in a really good nap this morning when you woke him, you might have been able to get him back on that track. Of course don't get me wrong  :-X I know how scary it is to risk no PM nap.

((x))

This is what I think too.  When we had that roll of consistent routine (until the teeth cut), he was doing 2hr am nap & I agree it seemed to suit him. He was happy with a long A to 2nd nap & a shorter A to bed & was going down easily for all naps & sleeping 11hrs at night.  I hate all this screaming & I want to get back to that.

Do you think 2hrs is too long for the am nap though?  I know it would be an issue if he was going back down for his am nap after say only 1-2hrs A time as this then acts as an extension of his night sleep, but if he is doing a full A time say 3.5hrs its ok isn't it?  I just worry that in doing this I'm keeping the EW cycle going.

I am verging towards letting him sleep as long as he needs tomorrow & see what happens.  Oh I'm all over the place I don't bl***y know.  Whatever I do I need to be consistent about it & stop doing a day of this, a day of that.  As we're getting nowhere like this.  Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!  :P :P

Hope you got a later wake this morning too Vicki.xx

You know, I think it nearly doesn't matter which you choose in a way - you'll probably end up trying both before you figure out which one will work best for him at the moment.  ;)

Claire
I know exactly how you feel. I've also been doing endless tweaks to DS's routine and getting nowhere. Maybe I need to be more patient and not expect instant results.

For now, I'm going to try extending his first A and not waking him from the am nap just yet. Once he gets used to the long am A, I may try and shorten his am nap and hope for a long 2 hr pm nap. DS never gave me long pm naps even when he wakes early from his first nap. I'm just not brave enough to cut his am nap short in hopes for long pm naps.

Today went something like this (so far)
Wake: 5:00 am
Nap 1: 8:40 - 10:20 (DS couldn't stay awake past 8:40)
Nap 2: 1:40 - ???

Will see how the rest of the day goes.

Ladies, this thread has reached 20 pages which is likely to stop other members from popping on to offer their help due to all the pages of info they would have to read back over. So I am going to lock this thread now.
For those of you who feel you still need help with your routines or with night wakings etc. please do start a new thread of your own with details of your current EASY and the problems you would like help with on the relevant boards. This should help to get some fresh eyes on your posts and make it easier for other members to get involved.
If you think your LO is starting along the 2:1 transistion you can also pop join in with the chat and offer each other support here:
