Refusing afternoon naps!
« on: April 13, 2011, 16:41:47 pm »
My DD (15 weeks old) has been refusing her afternoon naps!  She goes down without any problems for her morning nap and at bedtime.  But her last two naps of the day are always a struggle!  She fusses and cries sometimes up to an hour.  When you go in and talk to her she immediately stops and smiles and coos.  All other naps are fine!  I just don't get it.  We are not doing anything different in routine for these naps and feel like we catch her cues (yawn, glassy eyes, rubs her eyes...)  Her naps are also tending to get a lot shorter.  I'm lucky if she gets over an hour in the morning. She sleeps really well at night.  Usually waking only once, maybe twice (like between 3:30-5:30pm).
Her schedule is as follows...
8am: Wake, feed, change, activity.
9-9:15am: Nap
11am: Feed
12:30: Nap
2pm: Feed
*This is where naps start to be boycotted!
5pm: Feed
*
8pm: Feed, Bath
8:30pm: Bed

What do you think is going on??

I think your LO is telling you she is ready for me A time.  Here is some info for you:

http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64158.msg476652
3 months 1 hour and 20 - 30 mins
4 months 1 hour and 45 - 2 hours

From what you are describing she is going down but short napping as she is UT but then ending up OT as the day goes on because of the short naps if that makes sense.

I suggest upping her A time 10-15 minutes for a few days and see does that help get you a longer first nap again and then go from there.  That first A time seems a bit short for 15 weeks.

HTH x

Thanks so much!  It seems to be working great!  Now I just have to get her to nap longer during the day.  She has developed the habit of short naps:(
Thanks again!
