Are 5hr naps just too much for LO
« on: May 04, 2011, 11:40:28 am »
Hi, I'm currently trying to move my DD 15 weeks old (16wks Fri) to a 4hr routine.
She did well on the 3hrs but noticed that her naps were 30mins - 45 in length. She only wakened once at night for a feed aprox 5am. She was only taking 3oz at each feed so I thought 4hrs would be better.
We are on day 14 of the plan, but from about 5 days ago she's been waking twice at night, 2am, given dummy although in and out for an hour and then fed at 3.30ish and restless sleeping the whole night. I am exhausted! I'm thinking that maybe 5hrs of naps is too long for her? She is managing everything well during the day and is steadily taking 4-5oz which is fab ;D, just now the nights are awful :(.
During the earliest wake up I've give her water but she only take a little so she's not hungry then. Then just settled her with a dummy. She will take 3-4oz at the 3.30 feed.
Anyone got any pearls of wisdom? I might keep her on the routine up to day 15 of Tracy's plan for a while longer also, I don't think she can manage the full awake time in the afternoon yet.

Why not feed her at 2am and see if she will settle and go back to sleep?

Thank you for the reply. I think I'm that bombarded with family and friends opinions I can't see the wood for the trees! Of course, thats a great idea.  We had been trying her with water and she wasn't interested at that time. I'll try it tonight but am dreading her starting to want a feed twice a night now. Hopefully she wont get hungry at 5, fingers crossed.

my Daughter is 16 weeks and still gets up once at night no matter how many (or lack of  :)) naps she takes during the day. I tried to get her to go back to sleep and not feed in that one wakeup but it just caused for a very restless night. I found if I just fed her she would go right back to sleep and we would both have a good night.
