Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help shed some light onto what might be going on with my 12-week old DS. He has been taking 30 minute crib naps since he was about 3 weeks old. The ONLY time he has slept longer was the day after his 2-month immunizations when he was obviously feeling the effects of the shots. I feel like I have tried everything to extend the naps to no avail. I have tried W2S and shush/pat but it has only worked 1-2 times in the last 9 weeks! Most of the time lately, I don't even bother trying to extend the nap because I end up getting frustrated. So I almost always wind up putting him in a wrap to finish off the nap because I know he will be OT with only 30-min naps. Even in the wrap, though, he often requires lots of swaying/patting to get him to fall back asleep after his 30 minute crib nap. He is 14 lbs though, and all this babywearing for naps is hard on my back! His naps in the car seat or stroller are typically 30 minutes or less too. He just seems to be a perpetual cat napper! I'm very careful of avoiding OS and we have lots of quiet time before nap time. He settles himself easily for naps and sleeps well at night with only one feeding around 4:00 am. Should I just accept that he is developmentally not ready to take longer naps, or is there something else I should be tweaking? Here is a representative EASY schedule for us:
E 8:00
A
S 9:20-9:50 (in crib)
10:00-11:00 (in wrap)
E 11:00
A
S 12:30-2:00 (30 minutes in crib, 1 hr in wrap)
E 2:00
A
S (typically 20-30 min cat nap while out and about)
E 5:00
A
S 5:30-6:30 (by this time he is usually OT from afternoon cat nap so my DH wears him in wrap to get in a decent nap before bed)
E 7:30
S 8:30
(sleeps through from 8:30 till 4:00 for a quick feeding and then down again till about 7:30 or 8:00)
Any help would be so much appreciated. I'm trying to be accepting and not get consumed by this (the way I was with my DD's naps), but I just can't believe how long this is going on for...and my back is killing me!
