4 month old nap problems
« on: June 07, 2011, 16:13:48 pm »
Hi,

My LO is now 4 months old and up until this week has pretty much been an angel baby.  This week however she has began to start fight some of her naps and as a result (I'm guessing this is the cause) putting her down at bedtime has become a real problem.  Once she is asleep she will happily sleep 12/13 hours but getting her down is challenging!

She has been on a 4 hour EASY since birth and is now as follows (no longer an easy as you'll see)

7am - E
7.30 - 8.30 - A
8.30 - 9.30 - S
9.30 - 10.30 - A
10.30 - 11.00 - S (sometimes she will nap for a full half hour, sometimes just a 15 min cat nap)

11am - E
11.30 - 12.30 - A
12.30 - 1 - S

I usually spend the next hour trying to extend the nap but fail more or less every time.  She is wide awake and smiling and just laughs at my attempts to get her back to sleep.

We then have A time until 2.15/2.30 when I try and get her to take a cat nap - sometimes works more often than not fails.

3pm - E
3.30 - 4.30 - A
4.30 - 4.50 - S
4.50 - 5.45 - A

5.45 - low key, quiet bath.
6pm - E and bed

After her bottle (which is done in her dim room) she is put in her cot at which point the screaming begins.  It usually takes a good hour to get her to sleep whereas a week ago she would send herself to sleep.

I know she is overtired but try as I might I cannot get her to sleep any longer during the day.  If she has had a short nap I keep the activity time low key until her next nap is due but this doesn't seem to have any effect.  During the day she is happy and smily - it is only at nighttime that the problems arise and if it weren't for this I would assume that she is a baby that gets most of her sleep at night and doesn't need so much in the day.  But I'm guessing the difficulty in getting her down at night is because she is overtired.

Any help would be really appreciated. :D

Thanks.

I would try increasing her A time by 15 minutes in the morning and see what that does :)
