EW Issues! Please help!
« on: May 25, 2011, 12:33:27 pm »
We finally got ds (10 months old) to rid the NW's (well, for the most part). Woohoo, right?!   Except, now he wakes at 5am, on the dot, every morning. The first few mornings, I let him fuss/play to see if he would go back to sleep. No go. I ended up getting him at about 6:15 as he really started crying and wanting out. This morning, woke again at 5am, so I nursed him. He did go back to sleep, eventually, but it took an hour. So, he woke at 5am, went back to sleep at 6am and now it's almost 7am and he's still asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of waking him at 7 so that we can maintain his 'normal' schedule. What would you do?

So, how do I get rid of this EW?! I love that he's fully sttn, but this 5am is just as bad. I can do 6, but not 5. And neither can he b/c then he wants a morning nap by 8/8:30am. Ugh! Then he's OT and only ends up napping 30-45 minutes.

A typical day goes like this....

5:00 am wake and I try to keep him in bed till 6:30.
7:00 nurse
8:00 breakfast
8:45-9:30/10 nap (having issues with this nap being short. can't figure out OT or UT. also has to be this early if he doesn't go back to sleep after waking at 5am).
10:30 nurse
12:00 lunch
12:45/1:30 (depending on when he woke from 1st nap) - 2:30ish ('usually' 1.5 hour nap)
2:30/3 nurse
5:00 dinner
6:30 bath, nurse
7:00 bed and asleep

Where am I getting this EW from?! Is he OT? Should his BT be earlier than 7pm?

I think you might be in the 2-1.  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=163278.0

You will probably have to limit 1 of the naps.  Either a shorter morning nap and a longer afternoon nap or the other way around.  Many moms start with shortening the morning nap because they get nap refusal in the afternoon.

What do you think?

I've been thinking this is what is going on, so I think you're right. :) So, if I stick with the short AM nap, say 30-45 minutes, that will mean the PM nap is earlier. But if he only naps 1.5 hours in the PM, say 12:30-2, what time will BT be? Super early, like 6:30ish, right?! Heck, that would be a 4.5 hour afternoon for a little guy. That could make him even more OT and have that EW too, huh? So hard to figure out!

I would still hold off until 9.  Say nap 9-9:45 and then nap 1-2:30/3.  My LO is older,  but I think I still did a set nap time of 9:30 at this age.  So you could do a nap from 9:30-10:15 and then the next nap at 1:30.  This would push bedtime back.  I was having terrible EWs at this age and had to stick to a set later nap time.
