Skipped nap - when to do next one
« on: May 22, 2011, 15:58:14 pm »
DS is 10mo. We are working on independent sleep (at the end of the 2nd week) and we are not having much success (mostly because i can't deal with the 2 hour + screaming NWs when I try pd in the middle of the night. Sleep is a mess and he is commonly skipping one of his naps (yesterday and today it was the first nap). Wondering when I should be trying for the next nap. I am inclined to get as close to the next regularly scheduled nap as possible.

His normal EASY is like this
W 5:15
S 8:45ish
S1:30-2ish
BT 6:30ish

Of course it varies according to the day....

{{{{hugs Becky}}}}

I was just going to look for your PU/PD thread and saw this.

If he skips his first nap does he manage the A time ok to his next nap ok?

3.5 hours A time in the am is short for 10 months but is that all he is managing because of the NWs?  If he's fighting it I would be inclined to think hes UT.  DO you do long am, short pm?

I was thinking of you last night and wondering if you've ever slept on DS's floor?  Wonder would that help with the NWs?

Thanks so much for checking in, Shiv. I am really at a loss right now. It seems like the only way to move forward is to accept that he will have multi hour NWs involving escalating crying and hysterics. Or, accept that I will have to get up hourly to get him back to sleep (that happened last night from 10pm onwards). He's teething now too, which has me second guessing myself.

He sometimes manages the extra A time okay when he misses a nap. He has missed out on so much sleep in the last couple of weeks, though, that I expect it will take a long time to get back from this OT state. As long as he is distracted//entertained he's okay, but I think his teeth are really bugging him right now. The other problem is that for the last couple of days he has crashed on the boob when i nurse him in spite of my efforts to keep him awake.

I posted also on the props board to see if there is another way i can handle the nws while trying to go forward with pd and patting in the crib for falling asleep.

Ugh, we are really in a mess.
