7 wo; should I wake from nap to feed every 3 hrs?
« on: May 23, 2011, 11:15:57 am »
I'm not sure if this is for the EASY board, Eating boards or the naps board, so please feel free to move as appropriate.

I'm working on sleep training gradually with my 7 wo DS#2 and the 3 hr EASY routine with mixed success. Once I get him down for a nap, should I be waking him to feed every 3 hrs? Sometimes I let him sleep as long as he can (especially if I struggled to get him to sleep) which makes a nap that is somewhere between 2.5 to 3 hrs. At this age, does he still need his sleep that much or should I be waking him for his next feed? He usually wakes one time in the middle of the night for bf and then one time in the early morning. I think his nighttime sleep is okay. It usually takes a lot longer to put him down initially for nighttime sleep but once he's down, he seems to stay asleep until the next feed. Thanks for any wisdom you may have on the subject!
This seems to change every day, but here is yesterday...

Personally I'd say it depends on his weight gain and how well he sleeps at night.  I rarely woke ds2 for feeds in the day but he was putting on weight well and went long stretches at night from a very young age so figured he was getting enough.  With ds1 I woke him every 3 hours at this age otherwise he'd feed more in the night.  Can't really remember with dd!

How's he been getting on?

Thanks for the reply! He does seem to be sleeping well at night: E at around 2:30 a.m. and then again at 6. His weight gain seems good, too. I have not been waking him to eat. We struggled with the morning nap this morning resulting in a couple of short restless "naps" over 3 hours. So, now that he is finally asleep, I am letting him sleep. The last 2 days we've been dealing with a yeast infection affecting his mouth and bottom, so that has been a nap buster. I feel lucky that he's taking a nap at all without being held!

Ooh, that sounds nasty!  Glad he's been able to nap some at least!
