You may remember I posted a while back as my 20 month old daughter was partying in her cot for a couple of hours at a time in the night, settling only after a bottle. She had the cold so I was given advice re naps/the bottle etc to follow once she was better. Following her cold she spent a period of time in hospital (unrelated) but when we got home I did what had been suggested and it worked! She started sleeping all night which is bliss!

The last few nights have been hell! :(
She goes to sleep as normal but wakes anytime between 12 and 3 and is screaming, absolutley terrified and sounds panicky. She stops the moment we touch her, if we just go in her room it's not enough, she wants to cling on to us. She is almost throwing herself out the cot to get to us she is so desperate for us to hold her. The screaming stops when we hold her.

My hubby's job means he has to get a good sleep for safety reasons and I am 6 months preggers so we feel under pressure to get this sorted asap for all our benefit.

We have ended up sleeping on her bedroom floor cuddling her, if you move 1mm away from her she screams and climbs on you, she wants to sleep lying on us. We have tried giving her calpol in case she is teething (don't feel any new ones at the mo).

Her routine is as follows

7am Awake
11ish - 1ish Nap (no problems with screaming at nap time)
6pm - Bath & wind down
7-8pm Falls asleep

Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel that the screams are more than just crying for attention, she genuinely seems scared of something. Thanks xx

Hi there...

It could be a few things; nightmares are one possibility, does she have a night-light in her room to make her feel less frightened or a special toy that she can cuddle? It could also be that she's feeling unsettled due to your pregnancy....at 6 mths pg you will be looking different & this could be unsettling for her, I know my DD's sleep went a little wonky during the later stages of my pg with DS. We found that doing a longer wind-down before BT really helped so DD felt reassured & got some good quality time with either DH or I.

The other issue (as always!) could be teeth...2nd yr molars can start bothering LO's at around this age (even though you might not be able to see anything) as they tend to move around a lot in the gums before they come through.

Just looking at your routine, the nap is a little early & could be pushed back....she only has a 4hr A-time before her nap & then a 6/7hr A-time before BT which is really long so could be causing her to get OT.
