3 Yr. old EWs (no nap) - W2S???
« on: May 30, 2011, 15:49:01 pm »
Hi all, I'm desperate. My 3 year old has been having EWs for a month now. She is tired off and on all day!
She dropped the nap 5 months ago. I've tried giving her a nap, but no go. I've tried earlier bed time and get earlier wake up! 10 hours is not enough sleep in 24 hours!
I make her stay in bed until "yellow sun" (grow clock) but she does not go back to sleep!
At wits end. Should I try W2S? If she's waking at 6, when should I do it? 5am?
I'm almost at the point of giving her a little tylenol at 5am to see if she sleeps a little longer (once in a while)... that's how desperate to have my sweet girl back (instead of my cranky one)!

Hi there hon, I think she sounds really OT.  3 is typically when they are just sort of coming to terms with no nap.  For a lot of kids it's alternating no nap and nap days and earlier bedtimes.  I think you have to give earlier bedtime a longer go.  Do you think the Tylenol would help her sleep or is she in some kind of discomfort?  I don't think Tylenol really has a sedating effect, it's really just for pain.  And you probably don't really want to go there either :-)

Could you pop up her day so we can see what's happening?

You can join us here, we're all commiserating about STILL having to deal with nap cutting, nap fighting, no napping and trying to maintain our nights!

Hi!

The no nap transition for us has been the toughest IMO, DD (who's nearly 3) dropped her nap around a month ago after months of nap & BT resistance. To start with our nights were short (around 10.5/11hrs max) & it's taken us until now to start to see longer nights (up to 13hrs the last couple of days which I never thought would happen!!).

Totally agree with Wendy that early BT's are the key to surviving no naps...to start with we were doing 6/6.30pm BT's, we've now been able to push it back a bit to 6.45/7pm on the back of longer nights.
