Ds will be 11 months in about a week. He had been resisting the afternoon nap for a few weeks before we started sleep training almost 4 weeks ago, but with my AP tricks I could get him off to sleep and we usually had 3ish hours of day sleep and 2 decent naps. Right now I am stuck sitting next to the crib and replugging the paci as he goes to sleep so he doesn't get any more help than that.
We are consistently having pm nap refusal. Morning naps have always been the best and easiest (although he did skip one or two a couple of weeks back) and usually last from 1hr10 to over 2hrs. Now I am trying to cut them to 1 hr or less. He is still fighting sleep in the afternoon (can't tell whether UT or OT, but puts up a big fight regardless). Even after a 35 minute morning nap (OT I guess) he cried for 35 minutes starting at 12:30, and after a break screamed and cried from 1:30-2:20 then crashed. I am finding the hard crying and endless hours in his room REALLY hard to take (our nights have always been and still are horrible and we sometimes get 2 hrs of screaming if I don't pick him up).
So, if I did one nap at around lunchtime, he would be past OT and just nice and exhausted. When like that he falls asleep very easily (although I do have to watch it's not on the boob as feeding is still before, though not right before sleep). He CAN take long naps of 2 or more hours. And in fact he has done 2 hours after a missed morning nap (even after a bad night and EW).
Right now, with all these missed naps and short naps he ends up doing VERY long A times and he manages usually. He will even resist late day attempts at catnaps at times.
So, tell me, what could be so wrong with going to one nap at this point. I know he is very young but his sleep couldn't possibly get any worse than it is, could it?
