Help me w/feedings for nearly 6mo not yet taking solids
« on: June 19, 2011, 23:23:34 pm »
hello again.  we are changing DS's easy by dropping the CN because his nights following CNs are horrible but his nights following 2 naps are long and great.

my problem is that with increased A times, and no solid food feeds yet, DS's next feeding times are falling during naptime.  to make up for it, i am giving him 2-4 ounces before a nap if a feeding time is supposed to happen during the nap.  also, we do not do a DF so DS wakes for a bottle between 2-4am at random times each night so we feed him then.

this is what i did today...

3am NW - 6oz
6am wake
E 6:45am 7oz
A 2h40m
S 8:40-10:10am
E 10:35am 6oz
A 2h40m
E 12:45pm 3oz
S 12:50-2:35
E 2:45 5oz
A 3h30m
E 5:45 7oz
S/bedtime 6pm

Total oz eaten today including 3am NF...34oz

so the middle of the day is a bit muddled.  i remember w/DD at 6 months she would have bottle feeds every 4 hours and solid feeds in between the bottles.  since DS is not warming up to solids AT ALL yet i am not sure how to cover him during naps w/o giving him a small feed before nap.  this typically happens before his afternoon nap since he doesn't eat right away after waking in the morning.

any suggestions are welcome! thanks!

Looking at your routine on a 4 hour EASY he wouldn't be due a bottle until he wakes from his nap anyway so is he waking early if you don't give him the little feed before?

What times are you giving solids now? Is he draining his bottles - have you tried upping his oz in each bottle?

To be honest I think I would try just sticking to the 4 hour EASY and not worry about giving him a bottle before a nap if he's not actually waking early from it. If he's not too interested in solids yet then maybe milk is enough for him at the moment. The danger with the bottle just before the nap is you could end up creating a prop :-\

Don't forget solids are just for fun at this age rather than filling tummies and babies who are doing BLW eat very little at this stage so they aren't filling up on solids either.

What do you think?
