3 - 2 nap transition - A time after catnap
« on: July 10, 2011, 21:34:39 pm »
HI all

DS is 6 months 1 wk and is starting to stretch A times in prep for dropping catnap but im having a nightmare!!

his routine was perfect at;

wake 7
nap 9 - 10
nap 12.15 - 1.45
nap 4.15 - 4.45
bed 6.45

now since needing more A has ended up like this

wake 6
nap 8.15 - 9.15
nap 11.45 - 1.15
nap 3.45 - 4.15
bed 6.15

I have EW most days and bedtime he is jolting after falling asleep BF then screaming not wanting to go down again - it can take upto an hour to settle him...

so my question - should I be shortening the last A time after the catnap - I have tried lengthening it to 2hrs 15 upto 2hrs 45 mins and this is worse - its getting sooooo hard now!

he seems so tired after the catnap and rubs his eyes throughout the A time...

any suggestions? bedtime settling was horrendous tonight!

Hi Annette,

HAve you tried lengthening that first A? You need to try to get that first A and then that second A up to about 3 hours before you can drop the CN. The time between the CN and BT shouldn't change much I dont think. What you will find will happen is your LO may refuse the CN after a while and then you can do early BT to compensate until you can drop it all together with ~3 hr As between naps

Does that makes sense?

Hi there

I think ZacsMumme had a good suggestion, but I just thought I would pop on and say that I remember having some super short A times after the cat nap...like an hour and 50 mins. Didn't leave much time to do things, but it sometimes would help combat OT.

Good luck!

Actually I totally agree with Smurfette, I forgot how short A time was after the CN, like 1.5 hours sometimes!

Hey Annette! Hope you are having better days than me! I think we both need to work on extending our first a time because that is what is causing all my problems too. I also keep having the jolts  the past few days. I thought it was ot. But after watching carefully for a few days I think t in fact might be ut in my case because when he resists going down as would be the case with ut he has been jolting more then waking at 25 mins.
