How long does your toddler nap?
« on: June 26, 2011, 18:09:16 pm »
Just curious, if your toddler is on one nap/day - on avg, how long do they usually nap without it effecting bt? Do you ever nap cap?

Thanks! :D

Hi, at 17 month 2 hours is the average. Don't particulary cap unless he went down late. Normally like to have him up by 2.30pm.

Ds will generally sleep 1.5-2hr, or 1hr 15/20 min if OT.

We get about 2h as well.  When he was C's age we got 2h and 12h nights consistently.  Those were the days!  ::)  I'd shy away from capping at this age unless he's going super, super long.  I know you're having BT issues, is that why you're wondering?

Yup, just made another post about it ::)  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=212773.msg2254400#msg2254400 The 2 hr naps seem to work best for us too. Yesterday he slept almost 3 hrs and not only did we still have our recent b/t stalling, but also a 2 hr NW that we usually don't get. He was definitely tired at bt but it still took me 1 hr to get him settled. Mama's tired. :P

F naps for about 2hrs 15mins (I wake him, he would easily sleep 2.5+hrs).  If I let him sleep 5mins longer than that we get UT EWs!

At this age I was lucky to get a 1.5hr nap out of T, he was such a terrible napper up until about 18mos then he finally started napping 2hrs!  Luckily he was always a good night sleeper.

DS is 21 months and I am capping at 2 hrs because any longer and we get EW...does not seem to effect BT though. At the moment he is waking around 6am napping 1-3pm (sometimes 1.30-3.30) then BT at 7-7.30 usually asleep by 745 at very latest.

When DS dropped to one nap (13 mos), he piddled at the 2h mark for a little bit, but shot up to a 3h nap within 2 weeks of dropping it.  Slept 10.5-11h at night, though...

Now, a year later, he does a 2-2h15 nap, same 10.5-11h of bedtime sleep.

Some LOs never hit the 3h mark when they go to one nap, or even 2.5h.  If he's fighting bedtime, I'd consider capping the nap (I say that hesistantly for his age...doesn't mean it's not neccessary) or just making sure the wind down is sufficient/long enough.

We used to get 2.5/3 hrs at that age...oh joy oh bliss lol  Agree with Sara, some never do long long naps though, we always had short nights so his long naps were the only way we kept OT at bay.  Capping his naps led to disaster so we didn't do that until recently (at 2 yrs old).  But some kids can handle the cap!
The tweaking never stops!
