down the drain in one day?
« on: July 19, 2011, 21:25:49 pm »
Hey ladies! My guy is 7 weeks and up until yesterday he was a great napper. He goes down almost all the time totally on his own and would sleep for at least 2 hours at a time. Yesterday we went for a run in the morning and I tried to get him down after we got back and the entire day was shot! Today he went down fine but only slept for 45 minutes both times. Could his good napping go to pot in one day?  He is taking a fairly solid feeding when he wakes up, perhaps a bit shy of his usual full feeding times. Could it be OT or hunger do you think? Thanks!

Maybe a growth spurt? Or does he need his A time increasing? How long is he usually awake?

When we're home he's usually awake for around 45 minutes at the longest. About how long is typical? If we are out and about I try to do things in the morning because up until the other day he usually did very well slept longer if he hadnt got enough sleep in the stroller or car seat. I just cant be stuck in the house in the hot summer and balance he and his 3 year old brother all day, I'll go insane!

At 2mo most lo would be doing 1hr 15-1hr20. As this is a fair bit longer than your 45mins it may beyour answer. If he is used to 45min though you will likely have to increase it slowly until he is used to it. Maybe by 5mins a day. Just walking around with him or sitting in his room will help keep that low key if he really struggles. Maybe work on that 1st morning A 1st if he is best in the morning and work on the rest if it helps. See here.

I am thinking he can be awake longer, I'll definitely try it tomorrow.  I've been stressing and trying hard not to! Thanks for your help!

Not so well today. I tried after an hour and he was really yawning for the first nap and he was up at 45 minutes again. We ran to the store, he fell asleep in the carrier and I got him right up to bed sound asleep and he was up 10 minutes later. I plopped him in the swing and he slept for 2.5 hours, got him up to feed him since he'd gone almost 4 hours since the prior feeding.  He was up and happy for about an hour bit and then started to fuss and tell me he was tired. He went down ok and in the crib and was up at 40 minutes. I changed him and put him in the swing and he dozed but didnt get fully to sleep. its 7pm and he's been asleep for the night since 6:30.

I have decided I'm not going to stress about the swing as much as I initially thought I would. I do realize it's major APing but for now it's what I have to do to get him the rest he needs and also not let my 3 year old rot in front of the tv:-) We're also going to be traveling in a couple of weeks so anything I do now will go down the tubes during that 10 days. We'll work on it after that perhaps.  Thanks for your help though!
