Short naps getting shorter
« on: July 22, 2011, 20:54:44 pm »
DD is 3 months old and has been sleeping consistently through the night for about 6 weeks now (9-10 hours). We're very lucky, I know. But her naps are getting shorter and shorter, starting about 2 weeks ago. They used to be 45, now I am lucky if they are 30mins. She always naps and sleeps in her crib, so I don't think location is the issue. She is on a great 3 1/2 EASY. When she wakes, she is screaming. Not fussy-waking-up-sounds, but get-in-here-right-now sounds. I have tried absolutely everything. Swaddle, unswaddle, let her fuss a little (never more than 3 minutes) and racing in there, picking her up to shush-pat, or shush-patting in the crib. She is not a grumpy baby, only a little cranky right after she wakes up, but rebounds quickly. Her sleep cues are very consistently appearing about an hour after she eats. She goes down like a dream, no problems at all. She is still tired when she wakes up, but I cannot get her back to sleep. Would love some advice!

This is a typical age for naps to get short as 3-6 months LOs are sorting out their day sleep. They also start to sleep more like us and have problems transitioning between sleep cycles.

Have a look at these posts and see of any can help you out :) Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts. W2S or HTTJ wmay help your LO get through these short naps. :)
