16 month routine tweak help... ASAP please
« on: August 06, 2011, 22:21:32 pm »
Hi everyone...
My baby is 16 months and has been on 2 naps...
An average day
A- 7
S-10
A-1115
S- 230
A-330
S-730

But the last week has been a disaster... He is waking up sooo often at night!
(I can see some top teeth just behind the gum- but they have not cut yet)
But I am also thinking of going to 1 nap?
What are your thoughts?

The other issue with 1 nap is that I need to pick up my son every day at 1 -- this can be done a bit earlier so that I am home by 110!

Thanks lots in advance

Hi there...

It looks like your DS is in the midst of the 2:1 transition hence the waking during the night which can be common.

It's a little tricky if you have to pick your other son up at 1pm. I would maybe try a short cat-nap in the morning (cap at 30 mins) & then keep the longer nap for the PM.

Looking at your routine his A-times are a little on the low side which means he's not having enough activity time during the day so he's probably UT at night & he's now got into a bit of an UT/OT loop which again is common with this transition.

What do you think?

Thanks for the reply I am starting to think the more I read on here
That he is undertired!
Today I did 1 nap from 1145-115
And then he went down at 615 for the night and went down much better

I am thinking of trying to do a 1230 nap this week and I will pick up my son early for the first week and see how we go...

What are your thoughts about doing 1 day 1 nap the next Fay 2 and alternating? Or just stick to 1 nap at his age?

Thanks so much

Most LO's transition to 1 nap between 12-18 mths of age so it's very likely that he's ready to handle 1 nap.

I would maybe aim for a nap around midday if you can, just to allow him to adjust to the longer A-time in the morning & not to get OT. Once he has adjusted then you can start to push the nap a bit later if needs be. It can take a few days for LO's to adjust to 1 nap so if his naps are shorter to start with, stick with the same nap time for a few days & they should start to lengthen (also do an earlier BT if he short naps).

You can alternate 1 & 2 nap days, I know a lot of Mums who have done this whilst doing the 2:1 transition, I guess it's what works best for you & your LO!
