Time to move from 4 to 3 bottles?
« on: July 23, 2011, 21:54:25 pm »
Alexandra is almost 8 1/2 months now... she wasn't well for the last couple of weeks but it on the road to getting better.  We actually ended up in the emerg and had x-rays to find some terrible constipation to blame for her bottle/food refusals!  She was still pooping every day no differently than before, so moms beware.  They can get backed up and it can be very hard to know ;)

She may have a bit of apprehension with bottle feeds for a few days/one week, but she refused her lunch time bottle today... could be part of her recovery, but maybe not.  She happily ate a jar of peas 5 minutes later.  I offered the bottle before her nap at 2pm and she happily took it.

Could this be the start of the 4-3 bottle drop?  How long should I keep offering the 1130 bottle before I phase it out?

How old are formula fed babies when they do drop the 4th bottle in general?

Most bottle fed babies drop to 3 bottles around 9/10 months, but it really depends on the baby. We moved to 3 bottles at 8.5 months with my DD because she was refusing because of her reflux so moving to 3 meant she was taking more than she did on 4 bottles.

I would leave your routine for a few days and see what happens, today could be a one off given her recent issues or she could be wanting to drop to 3 bottles. If after a few days she is still refusing the morning bottle try her on 3 bottles and see if she is taking more that way.

Thanks Laura... that was my thought too.  Give her a bit of time to get back to "normal' first :)
