Confused about weaning 10 month
« on: July 27, 2011, 15:41:16 pm »
We were on 4 feeds plus 3 solids until just recently. I have dropped the nursing after the PM nap as that seems to be the most squished time for trying to fit everything in. She would probably still take if I offered so it's more my choice so that she gets a good supper in. Having said that, she was nursing less and less all around and specifically at this time.

Few questions...am I suppose (ok, not the right word, but can't think how to word it differently ) to now change to solids before nursing now as well as keeping the 3 BFs?

Am I suppose to still give DD BM in the PM, just not from my breast or is it ok to just remove it altogether? I usually pump in the morning after I nurse her so that I have some milk in a sippy for oatmeal or lunchtime/snack that I could always give instead.

I should add that she eats solids very well, as long as its 1.5-2 hrs after nursing...don't know if that effects anything.

TIA!

The WHO recommends a minimum of 4 breastfeeds per day up to 10mo.  So if your dd is 10mo, 3 feeds/day isn't a problem and you don't have to worry about expressing specifically for that missed feed.  I would still do bfs before solids though, as breastmilk should still be the main source of nutrition up to 1yo.

Proud to have breastfed for over 24 months!
