Ok so today was better this is what we have done today. He seems to be on a 3.5-4 hour EASY.

Previous night, bedtime 7pm, then he fed at 1am and 4am,although not much taken at this feed.
A 6.30
E 7.00
A until 8.45
S 8.45-10.15 a few paci plugs at the beginning of nap, in cot went down independantly

A 10.15
E 10.30
A until 12.20
S 12.20-1.40 again a few paci plugs at first, in cot, independant sleep

A 1.40
E 2.30
A  until 3.30
S 3.30- 4.30 in his bouncer cat napping whilst i made dinner

A 4.30
E 6.00
A until 7pm
S 7.15pm.

A huge huge improvment to the 40 minutes all day he was doing. I have tried extending the naps before his feeds, but its of no use he is full of smiles and wants to get up, no matter how long i stay with him and try to get him back down. He is not grumpy at all so this seems to be a better schedule for us for now. Any advice on how to cut out the A time before feeds i would appreciate. But this is better than anything he has done so far, and independant too!!

That is a great day. What are you hoping to achieve by cutting the a before e? If it is only that you have aeasy instead of the perfect easy i wouldn't worry. Lots of lo's do this while their a time catches up to a 4hr easy. If he is waking happy and going down well dont feel you have to get the perfect easy.

Ok so an update, we are following the same schedule as above most day, he is now only taking one feed a night. The thing thats worked???Putting him on his tummy to sleep. I had long suspected he was a tummy sleeper, and i tried all i could to make him sleep on his back, i used positioners, swaddled him, raised the top end of the cot, white noise on, blackout blinds. Nothing worked, then i gave in and put him on his tummy, we now have regular naps anywhere between 1.5- 3 hours. He sleeps all night apart from that one feed at about midnight. I was so nervous about it and barely slept myself for days just watching him, but i have gotten used to it now. He is a strong little thing and always has had lots of tummy time and lifts his head up and about with ease. At last we all seem to be on the right track!

Its good you are getting better sleep. Maybe you could consider one of the angel breathing monitors? The is no evidence they lessen the risk from what i read but it night give you peace of mind.

hey thanks, we had one of those for our daughter. They are great for anxious mums, im ok with it now i could have done with that a few days ago though. I didnt bring it with us when we moved to Canada as didnt think it would work, so gave it away to a friend. He sleeps next to me in his cot so i hear all his noises and i have his monitor up extra loud in the daytime and check on him regularly. He is actually now a fab little sleeper, who knew!!

Good luck. I assume you aren't swaddling on the tummy?

hey, no no!He is happy to just be in a short sleeved babygrow (its hot here right now) we are in Canada. I did buy a breathing monitor though, i couldnt stop checking in on him, and he was sleeping 6am until 4am, but i maybe slept a 3 hour total of that for keeping check on everything. So now i can rest, and it is bliss!! He is a fantastic napper, he always goes down on his own and has learnt to self soothe when his dummy comes out, he sucks on his fist instead. He does 2 hours awake time, then sleeps for 1.5 hours, in bed by 6-6.30 and does until 3-4 when he will have a bottle and go back off until 6ish. I guess he just hated sleeping on his back, and i know how he feels im a tummy sleeper too, thats why i didnt sleep a wink during late pregnancy! He is a happy little boy so we have all settled into more of a routine and there is peace in the house!
