when to get them up
« on: August 08, 2011, 05:04:16 am »
Sometimes at the end of a nap- even a short one- my 10 wo boy will wake up and just lie in the cot looking about and making the occasional noise. He'll sometimes call out and i will usually go in when he does this and get him up, but sometimes he doesn't. Should i go in after he's been there for a little while- say another 20 in case he'll go back to sleep, or just let him go till he calls out some more or starts crying? I'm trying to extend his A time and am worried that he may do half of it in the cot and this will throw us out.. not to mention be a pretty average ay for him to spend his A time, swaddled in a darkened room!

Thanks

Katy, Mummy to Hamish!

I Let dd have time in her cot.... Even if I know she won't resettle, just so she knows it's a nice place to be :-)...

Same here.  DS2 wakes up chatting from his nap and I leave him for a bit.  He's usually had a good nap so I know he's not going to go back to sleep but who likes jumping out of bed as soon as they wake up?!  When he was younger and I left him a lot of times he'd go back to sleep if he'd only had a short nap.  Think my max back then was about 30 mins as if he didn't go back to sleep by then then I knew he wouldn't.

Thanks- that makes sense, both letting him know that its a nice spot and letting him have some wake up time- he's been known to cry if i have to wake him up from a nap! (which happens regularly... he can't decide whether he likes eating or sleeping more!!)

Just good to know i'm not a nasty mummy!!
