what the hell is going on with my 15 month old??
« on: August 03, 2011, 00:10:07 am »
HELP PLEASE! NW's, EW's, crying for 1/2 hour before going down to bed at night (she used to cry for a minute or two)

Here is her EASY from yesterday.
 woke up at 5:55am
nap: 9:30 - 10:40
nap: 2:30 - 4
bedtime - 8pm (we tried to put her down at 7:20 but she cried for over 40 minutes)
work up at 3:45 and wouldnt go back to bed unless she was held by me.

what am i doing wrong?  is she OT or UT?  Does she need more activity time?  should her bed time be later?  i dont think shes ready to cut down on a nap because she isnt fighting nap time, yet.

Hi there...

Sounds like there could be a few things going on; 2:1 transition & teething can both affect sleep & cause EW's.

I assume that you are giving meds before sleeps to help with teething? You could also consider doing a meds dream feed in the early hours to help if you feel that teeth are bothering her.

I would also consider capping that 1st nap at 30mins & I would start pushing it back nearer 10am & then do the PM nap at 1.30/2pm for 1.5hrs. My DD never fought nap times when we were going through 2:1 with her, we just got NW's & EW's until we tweaked her routine.

Does this help?

her nap this morning was 9:20 - 9:45...not sure why she woke up so fast!
ok, so youre suggesting that if she wakes up at 6am, her first nap should be at 10am (10 - 10:30) and then second nap at 1:30, correct?  and then what time should her bedtime be?
THANKS!

Yes.... I would try BT at around 7pm-ish.

I'd stick to this for a few days to let her adjust to her new A-times. Good luck!  :)

As your LO is still on 2 naps then I would expect his sleep to be shorter, usually once LO's transition to 1 nap their nights start to lengthen.

i have to be honest, i chickened out today:(  What im worried about is that she is already OT due to poor sleep habits the past week that might be related to teething...and so if i cut her nap short AND extend her A time, wont it get even worse?  Should i try and wait for her to catch up on her sleep or is it just a vicious cycle?  Is there one thing i try/do before the other?
Sorry,
scared mom!

That's the problem, especially when LO's are transitioning. You need to do something to break the cycle iyswim? If you are worried about OT then gradually push the nap back over a few days (10mins or so at a time) to prevent OT getting worse. I think until your Lo is on one nap sleep will be a little tricky.

THANKS A MILLION!
it took me a few days to get my lo to napping at 10am, but i finally did it a few days ago, and bam, shes sleeping thru the night again.  AND, she naps for 2 hours straight, which hasnt happened since she was a new born!
The only thing im doing differently is capping her PM nap to 30 min istead of her morning one...is that ok?
THANKS AGAIN!  You guys are the best :)

Great news!  :)

Yep, it doesn't really matter which nap you cap as long as it works for you!

thank you again.
we will see how tonight goes.  the past few days shes been napping 10 - 12:15 and then a 20 minute nap @ 5 and then bedtime 7:30.  well today, she refused the pm nap, so i just put her down at 6:30 instead of 7:30!  fingers crossed for tonight.
