My 3.5 mo ds has been biting the past couple of days. It makes feedings scary and uncomfortable.  :-\ Any ideas why he's doing this?

Hi there dd started doing the same thing around the same time ( she is now 19 weeks)

I don't know for sure but I am
Guessing it's developmental...., although maybe get yr health visitor/ doc to check lo mouth for thrush (althoughshe prob would really fuss if had this) or anything else...

I also wondered if it could be early starts of teething

I very firmly tell dd "no" then let her continue feeding

at almost 11 months DS is biting everywhere and has drawn blood a few times with his teeth. I skipped his feed today and expressed manually into the bottle for tomorrow's porridge. Hearing no makes him cry but does not stop the biting. He is teething but he already has 4 sharp teeth.

My LO did this for a few days and i would just unlatch her and then try again.  And it went away as soon as it came.  Often it was at the end of the feed and I think she was getting done eating.

Actually justr tried holding him like a rugby ball and the latch on was better. Now he tries tu pull the breasts so does not latch on properly and then bites in frustration. The end of feed biting still occurs. Figured he must be teething on one side as bites only one breast. Not a 100% solution due to biting at the end, so am hoping it will pass, like you say. Thank you for your advice!

Hi,
my dd did this at the end of feeds. I read somewhere to look where the tongue was! they can't bite if the tongue is around the nipple. This helped, I could break the latch before the bite!! : :P

With my LO I always pulled him towards the breast when he bit. Their instant reflex is then to open their mouths (as they can't breathe if the breast is covering the nose). This put an end to a very different biting phases, we BFed til 2 years old.

Wow, thank you so much for the feedback. He does this at the end of the feed and when it happens I screech in pain, which scares him.  :o I will try everything that has been advised.  :D So far today has been bite free.

I too pushed towards the breast.  This worked for both my kids.  Teething is also a cause for the biting.  It does go away.  Hugs for you!

DS (10 mo) started biting at around this age, usually when he was done, or to try out new teethies. He hasn't done it in a while now, but he does pull off or turn his head without bothering to let go first, which hurts almost as much!
