cold turkey paci wean disaster

aagh! Took away the paci last night. Settled him to sleep with some wi wo by 8pm. He slept til 430 then dd woke so did he and dh settled by hand holding for few mins. Today, total nap refusal. Tried everything! Any ideas?

I think it will just take time for him to get used to not having his dummy and finding a new way to settle to sleep.   I would do long wind down and help him relax lots before sleep times.

we took away the dummy when A was 12 months cold turkey, he was a bit upset to begin with but it didnt take long.  just stick with it he will forget about it soon.

managed to get a nap at 4pm lol! Put the old lullaby tigger he had when he was a baby and seemed to settle ok after about 10 mins. Fingers crossed for tonight

day 4. Taking a long time to settle but is eventually falling asleep. Unfortunately this means we are in an ot loop. Will try and keep things low key tomorrow by staying home but im seriously running low on patience and sanity with dd short napping and waking to feed at night. Very close to posting on the ppd board, but dont want to admit it. Why did dh have to smash the blinkin dummy. Aagh!

Stick a DVD on in the afternoon and let him lie on the settee and he might fall asleep?

You are doing great.  M still has her dummy at 3.5 and we're giving it to Santa for baby reindeers.  Much older than I thought she would have it but she only has it at bed time and no way I could have weaned it when DD2 came along.  You are a brave mummy xx

its the way their family have always done it. Big hammer in the garden.'You're a big boy now, lets smash the dummy for a gift'. So they did, ds has known it was coming for a while. He's moving to pre school at nursery next week so seemed like the right time. He's just taking a while to learn. Shiv, Id love to chat. Will pm you tomorrow when i get a chance lol!
