Help with W2S to extend naps
« on: October 04, 2011, 17:02:58 pm »
Hi there

DD is 12 weeks old and we have had weeks of 45 minute naps no matter what A time I try and implement. She usually wakes up at the 45 minute mark and looks around without crying for upwards of 30 minutes and then puts herself back to sleep but I want to try and stop the waking completely.   Therefore I want to try w2s to extend her naps.

I tried with one nap today and went in at the 35 minute mark and touched her cheek enough to make her move her head but she didn't open her eyes.  Is this what we are supposed to do...not completely wake them, right?  She then woke at the 45 minute mark fussing a bit but is now working on putting herself back to sleep (it has been 10 minutes since she woke - I can see her on the video monitor:)).  When trying to implement this, how long should I try to do this and I am assuming I should do it for every nap?

Thank you!

When we did w2s, I did it for every nap for 2 weeks.  I had success about 50% of the time, the other bits, she woke up completely and I could not get her back to sleep.  I found that it was  a bit tricky to figure out how much to stir her.  I could see her jolt at the transition, so I tried to intervene right before that by "holding" her in the crib (putting my hands on her) and then doing shh/pat if she continued to stir.    It did work, but it took a bit for me to figure out what worked best for her.  Good luck!!
