11.5 month old doesnt want to sleep
« on: October 01, 2011, 15:07:45 pm »
I am seriously starting to dread the time when I have to put DS to sleep. He stands up, he jumps in his crib, he throws his toys and his blanket out of the crib and laughs when I pick it up (lol), he cries, he will do whatever is possible to stay up. This started about 2 weeks ago and before that he would go to sleep without any problems. I start unwinding him about 20 minutes before putting him to bed, we dance, we talk quietly, we walk around the house, but as soon as we walk into his room he starts crying. So I am wondering maybe he sleeps too much and he is ready to transition to 1 nap? I am having such a hard time putting him to sleep 3 times a day and its starts getting the best of me. DS is so strong and when he gets upset he kicks and walks on me while i'm holding him.
Anyways, our easy looks like:
6 or 7 wake up + 6 oz formula
8 - breakfast
10 - sleep
11:30 wake up
1:00 lunch
3:00 sleep
4:30 wake up
5:30 dinner
8:00 bottle and bedtime

Have a read of this first......http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0

Maybe start cutting one of the naps back to an hour and see how he gets on from there.  Chances are he's a bit UT therefore taking longer to go down.  I've found cutting the first nap back works the best but obviously depends on how you want to do things!

For what it's worth, I have been keeping my 11 month olds AM nap to 1hr and the PM to less than 1 1/2 hours.  She is sleeping so much better now.  Maybe it would be worth a try?

we tried that before and i was cutting his am nap to be ~ 1 hour and a 2 hour pm nap but then he acts super tired for the rest of the day: yawns all the time, rubs his eyes and is very cranky.. in addition he's got a cold and his tooth is coming so he's super sleepy but refusing to go to bed.. i have to resort to giving him the bottle with water so that he could fall asleep (which he does almost immediately).. i hate him falling asleep with the bottle in his mouth :(
how long should his A time be now? I think ours is sometime between 3.5-4 hours, although is shifts around like crazy

The A time looks about right.  Did you try putting him to bed earlier when you were cutting the morning nap to an hour to see if that helped him not get OT?

Hi, sorry was MIA for a while.. LO has a cold that does not want to go away :( we're going to see a doctor today
For the past two weeks he's been waking up at night, sometimes more than once and it is a major pain to get him to fall asleep again. I hope that its cold related, because he used to sleep until 6-7 am and now he wakes up tired and the whole day seems to go off track. I need some help. I think we fell into a huge OT loop and now we have a hard time going to bed, staying asleep and waking up at a decent time..
