10 month old short naps
« on: October 25, 2011, 09:25:24 am »
Hi everyone I am not sure where to begin. My LO is 10 months old and hasn't been the best at naps all the while. He was doing great with naps for a while but usually would revert to his short naps. I don't always know why although I am guessing teething and changes in A times are usually the culprits.

My LO has been on a 3 hour 45 mins A time for a while. His EASY looks something like this:

6.30am - Wake
9.15am/9.30am - Nap 1 (45 minutes to an hour)
10.15am - Wake
2pm - Nap (I try to sync this nap with my older child so I can get a break)
4pm - Wake
7.15pm-7.30pm - Bedtime

However in recent weeks, he started to take short naps for the afternoons as well. Nap 1 has become mostly 45 minutes or less. Nap 2 (Which I keep at 2pm still) has become wonky, him waking at 45th minute. sometimes he is happy to go back to sleep after whining for about 15 minutes. Sometimes he does not go back to sleep.

I am not quite sure how to tweek his EASY. Should I push back his first nap so that the A time after nap 1 is shorter?

Confused! Any advice would be appreciated!

I would push the A time a bit forward for the morning nap so it is maybe 4ish A. It may help to make the morning nap a bit longer.  have you maybe tried extending the nap with shh/Pat or pu/pd?

I think the teething has something to do with it, it does cause havoc with sleeping.   :D

Thanks for your advice! I pushed back today and today looked something like this:

6.40am - wake
9.30am - first nap
10.15am - wake
2.10pm - second nap (we had gone out and he was extremely worn out by our time at a playground!)
4pm - still sleeping! Had to wake him at 4.05pm.

I really prefer to keep the am nap shorter and have him nap at 2pm with his older sister. But seems like he needs to be really zonked out before he will take a solid afternoon nap?
