typical intake
« on: October 26, 2011, 21:48:37 pm »
I was thinking there might be a link that gave me an idea of how much typically LO's take in according to age.  Of course I realize everyone is different.  But if I could be pointed in that direction if there is one I'd appreciate it.  My 1 week old is taking in at least 3 oz per feed which is every 2 hours except for some good long stretches at night.  This morning she took in 4 oz plus.  This seems like SO much too me because DD1 was such a small eater!!! I suppose I'm just wanting to hear that it's okay for her to take in that much?

Absolutely fine! Even with bottle feeds you need to feed on demand and let them take what they need. There should be a bit left in the bottle so you know they stopped because they were full and not just because the bottle is empty and if they are draining bottles you need to add another oz. The only time to worry is if they throw the feed back up as soon as they have drunk it, but if she is keeping her feeds down ok then it's fine!

Congrats on your new LO!
