Would you offer more milk??
« on: October 29, 2011, 22:57:51 pm »
DS is 6mths and I have just weaned him on to formula 4weeks ago.

He LOVES his milk and drains his bottles and is basically having 200-250mls 5times a day (4 bottles during the day with 1 night feed) .

I have kind of been holding him back a little giving him 200mls, if he finishes it and wants more I give him an extra 60mls.  He normally slows towards the end and doesn’t quiet finish it, but in the evenings he drains that too.

Should I be giving him even more?? 300mls seems like an huge amount before bed and after solids. (he has just started having lunch and dinner solids and has about 1/3c each time)

I don’t know if he is just being piggy or if he actually hungry, I am just weary of over feeding him?

So if your LO finishes their already huge bottles, do you offer more??

I don't think those bottles are huge for a 6 month old, 210ml is 7oz, which is about average with some babies taking a full 9oz (270ml). The rule of thumb with bottle feeds is that there should be a bit left in the bottle so they can stop because they are full not just because the bottle is empty so if he is draining his bottles you should really add more too it.

If he is that hungry you can increase his solids a bit, just watch his milk intake doesn't drop too much!
