unable to go to sleep
« on: November 07, 2011, 01:30:29 am »
My 14 month old is all of a sudden unable to go to sleep at bedtime.  She seems to be uncomfortable... she is rolling around in her bed half asleep and then will finally stop and fall asleep (I can tell by her breathing) and then a few minutes later is crying again.

Since she outgrew her reflux at about a year she has been going to bed really well.  I don't think her reflux is back because once she is down she is sleeping for the night.  I have tried pain medication and it doesn't make a difference, I have tried earlier bed time and later but non of it seems to matter. I feel really bad for her and I don't know what to try next.

ug.  sounds familiar to me!  my LO has been funny about bedtime.  will she eventually go to sleep by herself? or do you have to go in and help her?

sometimes my LO will be up in his bed for 30 minutes rolling around before he falls asleep, but I don't have to go to him, so we leave him to settle himself.  I find that teething has been an issue lately with us - and he is super tired when he is teething and needs to go to bed early some days.

I think it could be time for a routine change -- what is your current EASY?

I think it depends on the temperment of your LO - mine will just stay up and "play" in his crib if I put him to bed undertired, but will cry if we put him to bed OT.

She's up at around 6:30, naps at about 12 (can sleep from 1 - 3 hours) and then goes to sleep at around 7:30. She's been doing one nap since she was about 11 months old.

Right now we are starting to transition to daycare (grandmothers were watching her) so it's hard for me to keep her on a great schedule.  Sometimes she'll "play" in her crib but lately she's been whining, crying and playing.
