6 week old and new to bottle feeding

hi there,
after a really bumpy few weeks, we have made the decsion to bottle feed.
i have a question, do i still do a 3 hourly routine, or 4 hourly, am a little confused!

Yes, carry on with 3 hourly now (I'm assuming your LO is under 4 months) and you will move to 4 hourly around 4 months. Some formula fed babies do move to 3.5/ 4 hour feeds a bit before this point, but for now stick to 3 hourly.

thank you for replying, my son is 6 weeks and been on a huge!!!! growth spurt.
thanks, so 3 hourly, was just bit confused as most 'formula' books/advice say 4 hourly feeding, but i didnt think that sounded right xx

my little girl has been on 4 hourly for 2 wks and she is 9 weeks old

The trouble with going to a 4 hour EASY too early is that they can't do the A time needed for it. They need to be able to do 2 hours A time which is not until around 4 months for most babies. If you do need to do 4 hour feeds before then you will be doing something like EASAEAS for a while until their A time catches up. You will find that there are times when E comes right before S so just watch you don't feed to sleep.

The other advantage of a 3 hour EASY with younger babies is that there is one more bottles in the day which hopefully means less need for calories during the night!
