Any advice/words of wisdom?
« on: November 13, 2011, 10:18:50 am »
Hi

Our poor DD has been quite poorly for a week now. She's 14.5mo. The doc thinks its a virus maybe with underlying asthma but she's too young to properly diagnose. She's got a horrible cough (makes her gag) and she's not eating or sleeping well. She's been on steroids to help with the wheezing and increased respiratory rate which has helped but it hasnt helped the cough. She's getting better slowly but its the poor sleeping that I think is really not helping.

She's been going to sleep at about 6.30/7 the last few nights. And has mostly slept until 1.30 if her cough hasn't woken her up. The problem is she's then awake from 1.30-3.30! Then up at 6 because she starts coughing.
She's been having a 1.5 hr nap from about 9.30am
Then another 30-45min nap at about 2.30/3

Does anyobe have any idea why we're getting such a long NW? I'm knackered so I'm sure its not helping her get better.
Any help would be much appreciated

Well even though she's ill she may be UT from not enough awake time in the day.  It's hard to say.  Is she teething on top of being ill?  What is she doing at that NW...crying the whole time?  How are you getting her back to sleep?
The tweaking never stops!

Difficult at this age because they move around so much but have you tried angling the cot up?  Or at this age I think they can have a pillow?  Just when I've had chest problems in the past (I've had chest infections, bronchitis and tracheitis), I find it eases a bit of I sleep more propped up.

Hi

Thanks for your posts. She actually sttn the last 2 nights which is great. Although shes only having 11 hours - is that normal at 14.5mo? She used to have 11.5 hours.

I've tried angling the cot but she just ends up in a heap at the bottom and wakes cuz she gets stuck. She's not teething as well. When she was waking, she wasn't really upset she was just awake. I tried settling her in her cot but after an hour I just put her in our bed with me.
