14 month old nap
« on: December 04, 2011, 20:00:49 pm »
So I posted about 2 months ago needing help with the 2:1 transition and we successfully did it where she napped from 12-2:30pm and bedtime at 7:30pm (wake around 7am). When I put her down at 12pm she falls asleep within 2 mins. She then started to resist BT so I decided to wake her from her nap at 2pm and she went to bed 7:30pm without any problems. This last week she's decided that she doesn't want to sleep at 7:30pm anymore. She moves around her cot, moans, plays etc until 8pm.
I would prefer to keep her bedtime to 7:30pm so that she doesn't wake up too late in the mornings on the days I work. Should I try and put her down at 11:30am and wake her at 1:30pm instead? (give her half her lunch before and half after?)
What time do other toddlers usually go down for their 1 nap? I heard some mums saying theirs go at 1pm but wouldn't the A time be too short before bed?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Julie

Well at 14 mths 5.5 A should be enough but all kids are different - so there's no usual time really.  If it were me and I wanted to keep bedtime at 7:30 I'd probably go for the earlier nap...if she starts waking earlier in the morning though you need to rethink the strategy.

And yeah, you can split lunch around nap.  We did that before.

Thanks Wendy.
I'll try and put her down around 11:30am. Do you think I should let her only sleep 2hours then? Wake her at 1:30pm? It still feels wrong to wake a sleeping baby, but I was waking her at 2pm.!!??!
Thanks :-)

At 14 mths 2 hrs was a minimum nap length for my kid; most often was 2.5/3 hrs.  BUT he only did 10/10.5 at night and no more.  If your LO is doing 11.5 hrs, I think 2 hrs is a perfectly reasonable length, as long as she's doing well behaviorally during the day and happy in herself.  So for now I'd wake and revaluate if you notice that things aren't working again.  2-1 is so trial and error, even when LO is on one nap, they can change the game on you :)

YEs, things always change just when you allow yourself to think that things are going well and we have some sort of structure :-) Thanks for your advice :-)
