Help!
« on: November 25, 2011, 19:41:28 pm »
So on Monday we ditched the pacifier and my almost 2.5 year old took it very well except for the fact that she now cannot fall asleep by herself.  ::)  If we use wiwo it can take up to 2 hours for her to finally fall asleep for both a nap and bedtime which makes for a very OT little girl.  Yesterday and today during nap time I put her down earlier and rubbed her belly like I did when she was  an infant and she fell right asleep.  I don't know how she woke up yesterday but today she went down @ 12:30 and woke up crying @ 2 which in this house = not enough sleep.  :(  She is also getting very angry in the mornings if she wakes up and we don't come get her within 10 minutes of her waking where as before she use to let me at least shower and be content to hang out in her bed with her stuffies.  I know she is completely overtired...the poor girl has dark circles and bags under her eyes but I cannot for the life of me figure out what I should do to help her.

Her old routine was this:
Awake: 6:30/7
Nap 1-3 (the week before the bimmy drop we napping b/c she wouldn't fall asleep)
Bed: 7/7:30

Now:
Awake: 5-6:30
Nap: same time as above but takes ages for her to fall asleep/
Bed: we start at 6:30/7 depending on if she napped and for how long but it can take till 9pm for her to actually fall asleep.

Any help appreciated

No advice here - just hugs that must be tough.  I'm going to hang around to hear what others say though - my ds has just turned 3 and still has a dummy for sleep times!

thanks for the hugs Claire.  Well today we had no nap due to a function we couldn't avoid and I just put her down @ 6:30 and not a peep out of her. She even went upstairs without crying!  So now I am confused....do I just need to drop this nap all together and leave bedtime @6:30 or do I keep going? Now this should be on the nap board and not on the prop board lol.

I am going to pop this over to the Toddler Sleep board as your LO is over 12mo :)

This is probably not what you want to hear sweetie but it's something you're just going to have to get through. There's not really anything you can do for her except to reassure her that she can do it and you support her. It's all part of the process of learning something new :)

Thanks Jessica! I had kinda figured that out.  We are back to sleeping with not as much fussing around before bedtime so it is getting better.  I think I just felt horrible b/c I created the situation for her  ya know?

No you didn't create it, don't blame yourself. Many of us choose to use a paci and it's almost always the right thing to do in those early days. It's choosing when to be done with it that's not so easy! Most of us go through it and there's no shame in that at all. It's part of the package.
