Dealing with 1-0 for DS
« on: December 01, 2011, 13:17:54 pm »
I know there are many posts about this atm but our situation is a little different (as always  ::)
 so just wanted some advice.

Henry is 37 months. We have been having nap/no nap days since about July when he refused to sleep in his bed. In September he was so OT I instigated quiet time which worked well for about 2 months in that he would sometimes sleep/sometimes not.

About 2 weeks ago I stopped it as it had been a good 3 weeks with no nap and he was just getting SO tricky to get in his room and waking M etc. He now has quiet time on the sofa from 1.30-2.30pm every day and I try to give him a 40 min car nap at least twice a week.

Henry does not really fight bedtime (apart from a little blip a few weeks ago)...he will go down regardless of whether he has napped or not and to begin with he def needed the nap or mornings would get earlier etc.

The last few weeks we have had a lot of NWings and he is not a NWaker at all....some seem to be dreams but last night he woke 4 times before midnight and was just asking me questions like how long until morning etc. It is so out of character for him. This was after a 30 min nap yesterday.

I am wondering whether to just get rid of the nap totally - could it be causing the NWings? Normally I would think it would be OT at that time of night but tbh night before last he did a good night - 12 hours is the max he does and then he did a nap in the car. Could the nap be causing this?

He does always look tired and of course it could be OT but even through OT he does not usually wake as much as this?

What do you think???

Hiya, I think I would get rid of the nap totally at this stage. My DS is 3.5 and dropped his nap a year ago, but like your DS has quiet time every day and used to sometimes sleep. He hasn't fallen asleep at quiet time in months now but had a 40min car nap one day last week and woke up 3 times that night! We hadn't had NW in ages. So no more car naps for us!

I think I would be tempted to just bite the bullet too Becky & just drop the nap & try to do an early BT as much as you can. He will adjust, yes it will take time....we were where you are at a few months ago & I decide to just go for it, yes we had to ride out some OT/difficult behaviour etc & we still do quiet time when she's at home & not at pre-school, but it does get easier!!  :)
