3 year old still not sleeping through the night
« on: December 06, 2011, 11:29:07 am »
Hi ladies  :)

I could really use some advise for my 3 year old DD. We've had problems with her sleep on & off since she was born. Always a different problem. She's been in a BGB for a about a year. She will not stay in her bed. Everynight she comes into my bed. If I put her back she insists i lie with her. If I don't the screaming starts waking up 6 month old DS...so of couse i give in. I used to have a gate on her door but we moved about 3 months ago & i didn't put it back on. She's only slept through 3 times since we moved. She tells me she's scared so i've tried night lights etc but that hasn't worked.

I'm not sure how to reassure her that she's safe & get her to stay in her own bed. Any advice?? DS still wakes for a feed so im running on empty.

Thanks  ;D

I completely understand what you are going through. So many hugs.  DD1 does the same thing.  We are slowly making progress. What we did was I let her sleep on our bedroom floor if she wanted to during her nw.  She too is scared of everything. She wakes up running to my room saying she is scared. The only other thing I think may work, which I was planning to try, is to sleep outside her door and when she gets out to march her back. The last two nights, however, she has been sleeping in her bed all night. I know it won't last! I also started a reward chart and promised her a big Cinderella Castle for Christmas if she continues to sleep in her bed all night.  Every time she does sleep in her bed she wakes up saying "mommy, I did it!" "Cinderella Castle?"

I know we still have a long road ahead of us.  It is physically and emotionally tiring.
have you asked her what she is scared of?

I will be following along for some tips.
