nap time hell
« on: December 11, 2011, 16:40:59 pm »
MY DD wakes up after 20-30 mins of nap...don't know what to do.  She then gets hysterical the second i roll her onto her side as she seems to know what's coming!  I shh/pat her but she squirms like crazy and I have to keep repositioning her in the cot.  Half the time I give up, as she is well awake at this point and when I PU/PD the same thing happens over and over.  But then 15 mins later she's crying again like she needs to sleep.

It is day 7 of EASY/sleep trraining.  It started off well but has gone badly in the last two days.  It took 6.5 hours for her to go to bed last night (1.30am)

Does anyone know what the squirming is about?  She's fed, clean, burped etc before attemping a nap.

Thanks

Do you think reflux is a possibility for the unsettledness at naps and BT? Does she display any reflux symptoms?

Thanks Zacsmumme
Ive read through the symptoms list and I dont think so....she rarely vomits, she eats well, weight is consistent.  she does get hiccups from time to time and she does drool a lot but she's 5 months, so this might be teething (no other signs yet though).  Im seeing the health visitor this afternoon so will ask her about reflux.

today I woke her up at 7am, started naptime wind down at 840, cot at 855, asleep using shh/pat at 904.  She woke at 924.  She then cried, whinged, rubbed her eyes while I did sh/pat and PUPD (only when very upset) til 10am.  She seemed to learn by then that she just needed to scream and I'd pick her up, once up, she was instantly calm, so back down again....we did this  til 1030 and then I ended the nap as she was wide awake.  Shes now happily playing (1045am)

When the nap ends early, how long should her next A be?  We're working towardS 4 hr EASY (not yet achieved due to poor naps)

thanks so much

I put her down for second nap at 12 and she went off easily, but awoke at 1235. I extended again til 1pm but no luck.  we had to go out so she slept in the car from 215-3pm.  I  put her down at 5pm for CN and she screamed straight away.  In the end I let her sleep in my arms for half an hour.  I worry she is learning that the cot is a place of misery.  BT  is the only easy part of the day and I dont want that to go sour too :(  (she wakes several times in the night, but actual BT is good)

so far today has looked like this:

E 7.00
A 715-9.00
S 9.04-9.24  (extended without success til 1030)
A 1030 - 1235
E 1100
A 1115-1200
S 1200-1235 (extended without success til 1300)
A 1300- 1415
S 1415-1500
E 1500
A 1515 - 1715
S 1730 - 1800
E due 1900, BT 1930 (wind down 1900)

she'll have had about  2 hrs of nap by BT so her nighttime is going to be disturbed too. Yesterday wa a bad nap day too and last night she woke at 8.15, 9.30, 11.00, 1.30, 4.30, 5.30, 6.30.

the whole reason I wanted to stop feeding to sleep was that she was miserable when left with hubby as he couldnt settle her for a nap (Ive had to go to dentist and doctors a few times lately which has brought this problem to light)

The health visitor wasnt available so I couldn't ask about reflux.....
