My guy doesn't nurse very long anymore. Is this a problem?
« on: December 22, 2011, 01:29:54 am »
The longest LO will nurse is 8-10 minutes per breast, and this occurs only at night when he starts to nod off and suckles lightly (and I let him bc I'm half asleep too). But during the day I'll be lucky if I can get him to go a full 5 minutes per side. In fact, today it's been hard to get him to go even 3-4 minutes on the second side. He then stops and looks at me and smiles and talks. Sometimes he'll suck again for 10 seconds more and then stop again. I assume he's done when he doesn't whine when I sit him up to burp. Does this sound normal in a baby his age? His weight is good but I'm just concerned he isn't getting hind milk or might be snacking.

I agree with pp about being more efficient. My ds is a quick feeder and that's ok. When I had him weighed at the bf clinic when he was a month old, I was very surprised at how much he could take in in such a short time. As long as he's lasting between feeds 2.5-3hrs then it's ok.
