20 week old routine help
« on: January 09, 2012, 16:44:42 pm »
Hi

I'm wondering how many naps my little boy should be having at 20weeks and for how long? At present, he struggles to stay awake any longer than 1hr15-1hr30min in the morning after waking up. Depending on how he has slept he has only lasted 45 mins. I put him down and he can sleep for 2-2.5hours. He doesn't nap for longer than 45minutes at any other point in the day. He goes to bed between 7 and 7.30 depending on how his day has went and showing sleepy signs. He wakes about an hour or so later, usually due to wind and can take an hour to settle again. The last few nights he has been sleeping until 3am when he feeds again (BF) and goes back down until 7 am. He has slept until 9am a couple of times recently and i've let him if he's been unsettled during the night. I know we should be on a 4hour EASY routine but not sure where to start and how this will affect his sleep and naps. I'd love any advice. Thanks.

At this age your LO wild typically be taking two long naps (1.5-2 hrs) and a CN before BT.
A times vary between 2-2.5 hrs usually

I would suspect your LO needs more A time, you can gently increase his A time by 15 min every 3 days to prevent OT. Often LOs at this age give sleepy signs for a number of reasons including OS, boredom and because their body is used to sleeping at a given time

Here are some sample routines...let me know what you think :)
