LO fighting naps, help!
« on: January 18, 2012, 10:41:12 am »
Hi all! I am new to this forum but have been following the EASY routine and have read the book. It works well for us as this is LO's natural pattern anyway (except sometimes we are on a 2hr EASY because LO likes to feed often in the day and sleep longer at night).

The only problem we are facing is nap time! Often LO goes from fine to overtired and crying with no tired signs so then it is very difficult to get her to nap.

Even if we do catch a yawn she will fight sleep and work herself up into a right state! The only way we have been able to get her to sleep is rocking/bouncing her in our arms with a dummy and she still puts up quite a fight with this! We have tried all sorts including shush pat and PUPD but she just gets herself worked up into hysterics and then it is impossible for her to sleep. The last week or so it has got much worse (maybe 4 month growth spurt?)

I was wondering if anyone has faced this and overcome it and if so how?

Thanks  :)

Hi and thanks  :)

She is 18 wks.

It has gone a bit haywire the last couple of days as she has not wanted to nap but usually something like:

wake: 8.30 am (but last few days also waking at 6ish for an extra feed and then back to sleep)

2-3hr EASY with naps ranging from 20 min-1hr (7/8 feeds during day)

Bed for the night at around 10pm

EDIT: She is EBF

It is really important that you get her on a solid 4h EASY.  At her age you are looking at the following kind of routine:

7:00 - wake and feed
7:30-9:15 - Activity
9:30-11 - nap
11:00 - wake and feed
11:30-12:45 - Activity
1/1:30-3 - nap
3:00-feed
3:30-4:45 - Activity
5-5:45 - catnap
6:30 bath and feed
7:00 - bedtime
10:00 - Dream Feed

This way she will eat more effeciet as well.
