Another 30 min napper but great at bt.
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:44:43 am »
Dd is 10 weeks old and has basically only been napping for 30 min this past week. I've tried acting right on her yawn but it's still happening. The odd thing is that she sleeps wonderfully at night. Well, we have night wakes every 3 hours but she sleeps a solid 5 to start the night...self settling and everything! Even though she is totally exhausted from the short napping day and eating, bath and a top up feed take about 1.5 hrs....longer than she is up during the day. I'm confused. Logically 30 min tells me she needs a shorter a time but how she is for bed at night makes me wonder if she needs longer, or is night and day sleep just different?

Hi there
Night and day sleep does differ.  LOs work on getting the night sleep sorted out a good while before day sleep so what you are experiencing with good nights but not so great naps is pretty common.

30 mins does sound OT however I have come across LOs here who have 30min sleep cycles (yes it seems short but I do think possible).  You may be able to observe her at night and see when she transitions (ie is it 30min or longer), or you could base your assumptions on whether she wakes happy or grumpy.  Happy would more likely suggest a UT nap (and a 30min cycle).

Wonderful that you're having good nights, well worth remembering when those day naps are not going quite as you'd like.

She still seems tired when she wakes. She is happy when she's up but I think thats just her temperament. She wakes up crying so I'm guessing ot but I'll observe. Thanks:)
