9wo waking every hour at night
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:09:57 pm »
DS is 9 wo and we transitioned him to the crib 6 nights ago. The transition wasn't too bad as I think he is comfortable in his crib however he does have frequent night wakings. Last night he drifted off to sleep on his own at 7:30 and stayed asleep for 3 hrs. until Df at 10:30 (this was a first!). When I put him down he is swaddled. I use a paci and shh/pat to help him settle. The paci popped out after about 10 min and he stayed asleep. After DF he slept 2 hrs and then was awake almost every hour after that until wake up at 6:30. (He feeds again at 2/2:30.) When he wakes at night, I give him the paci and he settles quickly. Two out of the 6 nights he only woke up to eat (DF & 2/2:30am) the other nights he was up every hour. Could it be that he is still getting used to sleeping in the crib at night? Should I just continue as I have been and give it more time? Thanks!!

Hi there, what was he sleeping in before the crib? It could just be that DS finds the cot very different and therefore will NW just until he is more settled in the new environment. My DD did this for about a week when we moved her into her own room. She was still in the same cot but I think she would wake and realise something was different and cry for us. It soon stopped once she got used to it. Maybe give it a few more days and if nothing has improved please do post back and we can see if anything else is going on.

DS used to sleep in a boppy on the couch next to DH or myself. I would try to do 1-2 naps a day in the crib as well as some A time so that the crib wasn't completely unfamiliar when we decided to transition for night. I figured DS was still getting used to the change at night and might need more time to adjust. Will post back if no improvement in a few days- thanks!!

The fact that your DS was so used to sleeping so close to you or your DH could also be making the transition a little more tricky. Hope things get better for you soon. :)
