2 yo insisting on keeping door open and frequent NWs
« on: February 28, 2012, 05:38:38 am »
DD is nearly 2.5 and over the last couple of weeks has been insisting on sleeping with the door open, all of a sudden. This doesn't bother us except that she is susceptible to noise and it  wakes her. I've tried getting her to sleep with the night light from her monitor on, but what she wants is the door open and the other night we battled foran hour before I gave in and opened the door. Now she's waking frequently at night. It's never long, just to giver her dummies back and give her a sip of water.

She's in a cot still so she can't get her own water.

Other than a week of CIO, I don't know what else to do. It's typical that this has started just as DSs sleep is improving, I think they take it in turns!

Hi there hon, well as you know BW and Tracy's methods don't support CIO so let's see if we can work out what's happening and find a way to help you all out :)

We are just kind of going through this closer to 3yo and a lot of it has to do with the nap.  Could you post her routine for us.

Is she at home or in daycare/preschool?

Could you not leave a sippy in her cot?  We did that for Finn since he was 9 mths old, he has always had access to water when he needs it.  Mind you it doesn't stop him from struggling to find it these days lol

This is the prime age of fears developing, they are more aware that they are totally separate from you and that things do go bump in the night.  They are developing imagination and things they read, see on TV or hear affect them as they start to think about it more when they are on their own.

(((hugs)))

Thanks.

She's in nursery Monday Tuesday and at home the rest of the week. The day is like this:

A 6.30 - 7.30
S 12.30-1.30 (if at nursery) 1.30-3.30, ish (if at home)
BT 7.30/7.45

I did wonder about the nap being an issue, but she seems to sleep worse after short or no nap (like last night). I have wondered about teething??

I have also considered your idea about sippy in the cot, but I'm worried she might just pour it out in her bed!

Hi there,
I would say that a 2 hour nap is probably too much at this age. I know with DS that the bedtime antics are way worse if he is not tired enough. If it were me I would stick with an hour max and see if this helps things.

Sorry I missed this!

Does your sippy not have a valve?  It's impossible for Finn to pour his out unless he manages to get the lid off.  Which he's not quite capable of yet.  She might surprise you :)

I think you should try to stick with whatever they are doing at nursery to keep consistent. When you do a short nap are you doing an earlier bedtime??

She doesn't have all her teeth yet?? Yes that could be a huge issue.
